2/5/03. 97 hours. The front belly skin is taken off, deburred and set aside while the rear skin is reinstalled. Then the front skin is installed once more, overlapping the rear. It's getting exciting now. The fuselage is starting to look like I'm making progress again. I can't wait to turn it over and get it on its gear legs.

2/8/03. 101.5 hrs. On the wheels for the remainder of the project. Here, I finally get to take a seat and make some airplane noises!

Dale couldn't resist taking a turn in the driver's seat.

With the skins on, it's time to work on the tail. The smart level made sure it was vertical to the fuselage.

The factory puts 4 holes in the boom tube and vertical stab, so things were easy to line up. The fan rivet spacer does a great job of showing me where to mark the holes.

The strake (forward fin) is drilled and clecoed on. Now, I have to pull it all apart, deburr it and epoxy/rivet it all together again. 107.5 hours to this point.

2/15/03. The vertical stab and strake are now epoxied and riveted on permanently

The first thing to do with the horizontal stabilator is to add the ribs.

Using halogen lights for heat expands the skins and helps prevent oil canning during the summer months.

The horizontal stab is mounted to the tail. The stab tips finish the ends off nicely.

Next is the fuel tank. It went in easy enough. You really need to make sure that all the filings from drilling the holes get out of the tank. Notice the brake lines are in and bled. With the Matco brakes, bleading them was easy.

The triangular panel is where the fuel filler goes. I rolled the top edge over the tube so the firewall sheet would lay nicely over it. It came out nice.

Here's the solution for cutting the slot in the wrong spot. I measured from the centerline instead of the control horn. :>( The fairing cover looks pretty good (considering that I made it with a vise, clamps and pliers), and will keep the rain mostly out. I made one for the bottom also.

The vertical stab tips are on. Both pieces weren't cut very straight, and tilted when sat on a level surface. I little dremel work took care of that and the slots necessary for the top rudder pivot.

Here's how I trimmed the rear piece to avoid hitting the hinge when deflected.

Here's a mockup of what I'm planning on for the panel. 167.5 hours to this point.
