UltraFun AirSports

12/02.  After selling my Challenger II, the search was on for the perfect next plane.  The plane had to be able to fly out of my 845' runway, cruise over 100mph, meet the proposed Sport Pilot guidelines while still coming close to the existing UL trainer rules, and cost less than $30K.  A month of searching brought me back to my first choice:  The Titan Tornado S.   Check back often to see the building progress.

workshop1.jpg (44298 bytes) 12/14/02.  Since most of the plane will be built during the winter, I decided to build a workshop inside the hangar.  A $99 10X20' canopy from Menards was set against the workbench wall.
workshop2.jpg (36392 bytes) 12/15/02.  3mil plastic sheeting was wrapped around the sides to form an enclosed workshop.  A 220V garage heater is inside.
factory1.jpg (93436 bytes) 12/30/02.  We drove the 2000 mile round-trip to Ohio to pick up the kit.  Titan just moved into this huge new building a few months ago.  Here's a shot of the 3 wing sizes available.
kit1.jpg (104831 bytes) Jay and I go over my kit.  My fuselage is powder-coated in black instead of the standard gray.  I think it looks better, and it will help make the tube in the center of the windshield disappear.
fuselage1.jpg (44316 bytes) I tried out my custom rear seat (I was too tall for it, even in the S model).  Lowering the seat standoffs worked.  John was even thinking that all models should be that way.
kit2.jpg (105733 bytes) Wait a minute... There's no tabs for my luggage pod.  There's no pod either, along with the rest of my accessories.  :>(  The decision is made to have a new fuselage built, since welding a powder-coated fuselage is not an option.  Oh well, I'll just start on the wing instead.  The rest of the accessories were pulled from stock and boxed up.
fusejig.jpg (107616 bytes) It just so happened that an S fuselage was in the jig, so this one is going to be mine.  It also means that my serial # will make it a 2003 model.
loadkit.jpg (43042 bytes) Two Titan employees boxed and loaded up everything on our trailer.
