Paint

I started this paint job (after a couple evenings of prepping) on 10/30/04 at 8am Saturday morning, and finished spraying the clear by 7:45 am Sunday morning, just shy of working on it for a solid 24 hours.  The heat had been turned down automatically for the night, and the clear coat had some runs, so I'm block-sanding it back down for a second coat (thus the dull finish).
There are currently 8 colors on the plane, with plans to add some more graphics not that I have to shoot some more.
I wanted this section to look like the prop was sucking up the checkered flag.
The wheel pants came out very nice.
After a week of block sanding everything, I decided to touch things up a bit and add a 9th color.  This time I let the guys at the body shop shoot the clear.  It just blew me away seeing how great it came out.
Purple was the 9th color, and it fit nicely in the tail section.
The color transition came out great.
I fogged in a little purple on the nose, and some pinstriping to separate the colors more.  It's been 25+ years since I've picked up a pinstriping brush, but it came out OK.  435 hours so far.
11/13/04.  Back to the body shop for another weekend of painting.  This time it's the wing. I did the bottom first, and it came out great.  Finished the bottom at 3am Sunday.
The stablilator came out very glossy, too.
I continued the checkered flag theme from the tail into the wingtips.
11/14/04.  After a few hours sleep, I head back to the body shop on Sunday for another round.  The next couple of pictures are before the clear coat went on.  Here's the top of the wing at the center.
Taping off the checkered flag scheme took 1.5 hours per side, and only 1 minute to paint.   It took another half-hour to remove the tape again.  :>/  I finished up at 4am and headed home.  A couple hours of sleep, and I head to work.  It's been a LONG weekend.
