Tail feathers all taped up. As usual, Quad City must get a
great deal on packing tape, as there's plenty of it to remove. |
 |
Here's the new LSS tail. Looks like the rivets on the top
gussets need to be drilled out so the vert stab extension can be fit
into it. |
 |
The manual recommends 4~5 rivets on the fabric to the cross brace.
That's something new that wasn't done before. I measure out for 4. |
 |
For the elevators, the same riveting applies. I mark for 3
rivets on them. |
 |
For the vertical stab extension, the firs thing to do is to drill
out the 4 temporary aluminum gusset rivets on each side. |
 |
A carpenter's square makes sure everything is lined up. Lines
are marked for reference. |
 |
The curved tube seems to fit well at just a bit under 3". |
 |
The aluminum channel comes in at 11.5" from the top of the gusset
(easier to measure than the top of the tube). |
 |
Wait a minute. I double-checked the alignment of the rudder
with the squared stab extension, and found that the rudder wasn't
exactly square. I moved the aluminum channel down a bit to align
the gap better. |
 |
Kind of hard to see since everything's gray, but you can see as the
square trails off to the right, the rudder is showing more and more.
It's slightly off square, but no big deal. If the gap is straight,
it'll look OK. |

Tail feathers are all covered, including finishing tapes and Poly
Brush. |

Tailfeathers are mounted. |
