Challenger LSS build
for Ken Heide
The ELT is mounted on the triangle right behind the fuel tank
Since the area below the engine will be accessible from the outside,
this turned out to be a good spot for the ELT antenna.
ELT remote mounted in panel.
Fuel lines are all run. Neither Ken or I thought fuel in the
cockpit was a good idea, but having a fuel shutoff valve probably was.
I put it right beside the fuel pump where the handle is accessible in an
emergency. It also can't be bumped by being in the cockpit.
You
can see the vent line coming up from the fuel level tee, making a loop
and heading towards the bottom of the fuselage.
Other side of the fuel shutoff valve. Vertical is on, while
horizontal is off. I might make a safety for the valve that would
require two steps to shut it off.
fuel line is routed up and through the firewall.
Fuel vent line exiting the fuselage. In the background you can
see the fuel drain valve.
Ken comes down for a weekend of building. Richard Strauss
stops by to help with the painting.
Ken takes a shot at painting.
With such a gorgeous Fall day and little wind, we keep going up to
the Poly-Spray coats.
Building some brackets the next morning for the area under the
engine.
The vertical firewall panel made a good spot for the rectifier.
Horizontal firewall is cut out and will be held by camlocks.
Starter relay mounted close to the battery, making a minimal run of
hot battery cable.
Wiring is complete, so it's time for fuselage fabric.
Engine wiring is just waiting for an engine, now.
On to the starboard side. The sheet is laid out with clamps
and glued around the perimeter
